| About us |
The initiative “Tutti Turisti in Thailand” started with the collaboration and sharing of ideas by a group of disabled people from various countries living in Thailand. The members desire to show a less constrictive way of living that each has found for themselves in Thailand.
From these “disabled partners”, meetings ideas and new ways of living that characterize the “Tutti Turisti in Thailand” initiative were brought forth. All these ideas can be summarized in three points:
1. Disabled persons must not be forced to participate in sports or other specific activities for people with handicaps, wanted or not, just because many believe that they have to do something in their free time. A disabled person has the right to choose whether or not they wish to participate in such activities, and should not be made to feel guilty when they choose not to join in. Like everyone else, they can decide how to spend their free time, as for example relaxing with friends. To decide how to spend one’s free time is a true expression of freedom, needed by everyone especially for people living with disabilities 24 hours a day.
2. People with disabilities who want to make their difficult conditions easier must gain as much autonomy as possible; with independent living they can improve their natural potentials innate in all human beings often constricted by charitable efforts. 3. For disabled people, it is very important to have good friendships as to avoid loneliness which often occurs from being excluded because of personal handicaps.
The idea is to build accessible locations within Thailand as to encourage holidays for people with disabilities. The goal of the initiative is to allow the people involved to have the same opportunities to live a life in full freedom, independent living and with good friendships in a place where it is easy to stay year - round. It is important, for us promoters, to not only help disabled people with special facilities but it is to also give opportunities as everyone else. We believe that disabled people do not have to behave as victims, but are people with the same rights and duties as everyone else. Mutual respect for each other is the key behind our own personal growth. Thailand is a logical choice due to its worm climate throughout the year. The warmer weather facilitates movements of people with physical distress. The particular magnetism of Thailand lies within the affability and courtesy of Thai people, always ready to help in simple and spontaneous ways. |
